Feast Day

The liturgical Celebration of Saint Ursula and her companions is on October 21.

Historical Background

Saint Ursula is a legendary Christian princess from Britain, traditionally believed to have lived in the 4th century. She is said to have been betrothed to a pagan prince but requested a three-year delay to undertake a pilgrimage to Rome. Accompanied by 11,000 virgins, she traveled across Europe. On returning to Britain, Ursula and her companions were captured by Huns in Cologne (modern-day Germany) and martyred for refusing to renounce their Christian faith (Britannica, n.d.).

Veneration

The Basilica of Saint Ursula in Cologne houses relics associated with Ursula and her companions. Saint Ursula is also the patroness of the Ursuline Order, founded by Saint Angela Merici in 1535, which emphasizes the education of young girls (Ursuline Sisters Mission, n.d.).

2. Saint Hilarion the Great

Feast Day: October 21

Historical Background:

Born in 291 in Thabatha, Palestine, Saint Hilarion was a disciple of Saint Anthony the Great. After the death of his parents, he distributed his inheritance to the poor and lived as a hermit in the desert. Known for his ascetic lifestyle, Hilarion drew many followers and was reputed to perform miracles (Catholic Online, n.d.).

Veneration:

Saint Hilarion is remembered for his role in the early Christian monastic movement and is honored as one of the founders of Christian monasticism.

3. Saint Gaspar del Bufalo

Feast Day: October 21

Historical Background:

Saint Gaspar del Bufalo was born in 1786 in Rome. A priest and founder of the Missionaries of the Most Precious Blood, he dedicated his life to preaching and promoting devotion to the Precious Blood of Jesus Christ, especially during times of social and political upheaval in Italy (Wikipedia, 2025).

Veneration:

Canonized in 1954, Saint Gaspar del Bufalo’s feast day is observed on October 21.

4. Saint Peter Yu Tae-chol

Feast Day: October 21

Historical Background:

Saint Peter Yu Tae-chol was a Korean martyr born circa 1826. At age 13, during the Gihae persecution of 1839, he was arrested for practicing Christianity. He was tortured and ultimately strangled to death in prison (Wikipedia, 2025).

Veneration:

He was beatified in 1925 and canonized in 1984 as part of the 103 Korean Martyrs.

  One God By Edward Matulanya   Here’s a clear explanation of One God according to the Roman Catholic Church, as explained by the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) and the Holy Bible. The Roman Catholic Church teaches that there is one, living, and true God, the Creator of all things, who is eternal, all-powerful, all-knowing, and present everywhere.
