Feast Day The liturgical Celebration of Saint Ursula and her companions is on October 21. Historical Background Saint Ursula is a legendary Christian princess from Britain, traditionally believed to have lived in the 4th century. She is said to have been betrothed to a pagan prince but requested a three-year delay to undertake a pilgrimage to Rome. Accompanied by 11,000 virgins, she traveled across Europe. On returning to Britain, Ursula and her companions were captured by Huns in Cologne (modern-day Germany) and martyred for refusing to renounce their Christian faith (Britannica, n.d.). Veneration The Basilica of Saint Ursula in Cologne houses relics associated with Ursula and her companions.
