Gerard Sagredo By Edward Matulanya Birth and Origin: Gerard Sagredo was born around 980 in Venice, Italy, into a noble family (some sources associate him with the Morosini or Sagredo families). He later served as abbot and eventually left monastery leadership to live more contemplatively, including undertaking pilgrimage.
