Meaning of Prevenient Grace The term "prevenient" comes from the Latin praevenire, meaning "to come before." In Roman Catholic theology, prevenient grace refers to the divine assistance given by God that precedes human decision or action, especially in conversion and salvation (McGrath, 2011). It represents God's initiative, preparing a person’s heart to respond freely to Him (Vatican Council II, 1965). Role of Prevenient Grace The following are roles of Prevenient Grace. 1.
