Here’s a description of the four major feasts of the Roman Catholic Church. The four major feasts of the Roman Catholic Church can be referenced from the Bible that underpin their significance.

1. Easter

Easter celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, which is the central event of Christian faith. It marks the triumph of life over death and is the culmination of the Holy Week, following the period of Lent. Easter is a moveable feast, celebrated on the first Sunday after the full moon following the vernal equinox (CCC 638).

Easter celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the cornerstone of Christian faith. It signifies victory over sin and death and confirms Jesus as the Son of God. According to Holy Bible (Matthew 28:5–6) “The angel said to the women, ‘Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said.’”Again (1 Corinthians 15:20) “But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.”

2. Christmas

Christmas, celebrated on December 25, commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem. It emphasizes God’s incarnation and His coming into the world to bring salvation. The season extends for twelve days, leading to the Feast of the Epiphany (CCC 525).

Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ, God incarnate, coming into the world to bring salvation. According to Holy Bible (Luke 2:10–11) “But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.’” Also, (Matthew 1:21) “She will bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”

3. Pentecost

Pentecost occurs fifty days after Easter and celebrates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles, empowering them to spread the Gospel. It is considered the “birthday of the Church” because it marks the beginning of the Church’s mission in the world (CCC 731).

Pentecost commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit on the apostles, empowering them to preach the Gospel and marking the birth of the Church. According to Holy Bible, (Acts 2:1–4) “When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit…” Also (John 20:22 ) “And with that he breathed on them and said, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit.’”

4. Assumption of Mary

Assumption of Mary
Celebrated on August 15, the Assumption of Mary honors the belief that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was taken body and soul into heaven at the end of her earthly life. It reflects the Church’s teaching on Mary’s holiness and her unique role in salvation history (CCC 966).

The Assumption honors Mary being taken body and soul into heaven at the end of her earthly life, highlighting her holiness and unique role in salvation history. According to Holy Bible, (Revelation 12:1) “A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head.” Again, (Luke 1:28) “The angel went to her and said, ‘Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.’” (This supports her special role and purity.)
